چکیده

Fluctuations in the basal level of luteinizing hormone (lh) in the plasma of ewes have been measured by the radioimmunoassay technique (Niswender, Roche, Foster & Midgley, 1968; Goding, Catt, Brown, Kaltenbach, Cumming & Mole, 1969). Goding et al. (1969) and Bolt, Kelley & Hawk (1970) reported that the injection ofoestradiol into the ewe caused lh release. In rams, however, the basal level ofplasma lh is not well defined and any effect exerted by exogenous steroids on plasma lh is not known. This study was designed to measure the basal level of lh in the plasma of adult male sheep and to determine whether exogenous oestradiol, progesterone or testosterone would alter the basal lh level. Sixteen sexually active Rambouillet rams, weighing about 100 kg and ranging in age from 2 to 5 years, were divided into four equal groups. One\x=req-\ half of the animals in each group had been vasectomized for at least 1 year. All

Evaluation of changes in testosterone concentration of the rat central nervous system following progesterone administration

Neurosteroids are steroids that are produced in the central nervous system (CNS). While progesterone and dehydroepiandostendione (the precursors of testosterone) are among the identified neurosteroids, it is not clear that testosterone could be considered as a neurosteroid. The testosterone synthesis has been demonstrated in the brain of castrated frog, but not in the rat brain. In the present ...

Purified urinary follicle stimulating hormone induces different hormone profiles compared with menotrophins, dependent upon the route of administration and endogenous luteinizing hormone activity.

The effects of treatment of patients with gonadotrophin-releasing hormone analogue (GnRHa) combined with purified follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) were investigated in detail to determine the influences of different administration routes and the degree of suppression of luteinizing hormone (LH). Responses to exogenous gonadotrophins were studied in infertile w...

Protective effect of vitamin D on Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), testosterone hormones and testicular tissue changes induced by methotrexate in adult male rats

Background and Aims: Vitamin D has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The present study aimed to investigate the protective effect of vitamin D on Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), testosterone hormones and testicular tissue changes induced by methotrexate in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 30 adult male Wistar rats wei...

Hypothalamic KiSS1/GPR54 Gene Expressions and Luteinizing Hormone Plasma Secretion in Morphine Treated Male Rats

Objective The inhibitory effects of Morphine and the stimulatory influence of kisspeptin signaling have been demonstrated on GnRH/LH release. Hypothalamic kisspeptin is involved in relaying the environmental and metabolic information to reproductive axis. In the present study the role of kisspeptin/GPR54 signaling system was investigated on relaying the inhibitory effects of morphine on LH horm...
